The mascot’s death was announced on social media. “It’s hard to find the right words in times like these. After more than sixteen years, the day we hoped would never come has arrived, and our beloved Arturo has left us,” reads the caption of a post on Formulino’s official Instagram.
“It’s as if a part of us has been taken with him. He was a member of the Formula Imola family, the first to arrive when the offices opened and the last to leave at sunset after clocking out.”
“Our mascot, therapist, and snack companion brought joy to our working days. There’s no motorsport enthusiast who doesn’t remember him, ready to greet those who arrive at the racetrack management building. We will miss him more than we can express. You will always be our Formulino,” the cat’s guardians also said.
Formulino was known among F1 fans for deciding the fate of drivers, with those who welcomed the cat having luck in their race. Fans are calling on the Imola Racetrack to erect a statue in honor of the beloved feline.
